Philadelphia Eagles Marquise Goodwin Chooses His Family Over Football For The 2020 NFL Season

Philadelphia Eagles made an addition to the receiving core that the fans will have to wait another year to see. Eagles newest Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin opts out of playing the 2020 NFL season. Goodwin made a video explaining his reasoning behind sitting out this year. The speedy receiver explained that he is simply doing this for the safety of his daughter Marae and wife Morgan.

Goodwin states that the health of his family is #1 and will not be selfish by putting them at risk.

Due to the uncertain regulations, the NFL has yet to create while the world battles COVID-19 many players are also taking the same approach as Goodwin. Last week, many NFL players tweeted at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on the discomfort they are feeling starting training camp with no set plan.

The Philadelphia Eagles picked up Marquise Goodwin from the San Francisco 49ers during a trade in the offseason. Which sent Goodwin to Philly and a six-round pick to the 49ers

Kyrie Irving Creates $1.5M Fund For WNBA Players Skipping The Season

New York Knicks v Brooklyn Nets

Source: Jim McIsaac / Getty

Kyrie Irving has made no secret that he’s against NBA players returning to the court to finish out the remainder of the season amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that’s claimed the lives of 140,000+ Americans.

So when it got out that many women from the WNBA league had decided to continue to shelter in place instead of participating in the season (forfeiting a year’s worth of salary in the process), the Brooklyn Net’s star point guard decided to put his money where his mouth is and is financially helping the women who are sitting out this year’s games.

Blavity is reporting that Irving lunched the KAI Empowerment Initiative this past Monday (July 27) and committed $1.5 million of his own money to help take the financial burden off of players who aren’t risking their health to play ball in front of empty stands.

According to a statement on the KAI Empowerment Initiative website, the program is designed to provide financial support for WNBA players “who are active but will not play in the 2020 WNBA season due to personal, professional, health, and/or safety-related reasons.”

“The KAI Empowerment Initiative is fully funded by Kyrie Irving who has committed $1.5 million to these efforts. In addition, the program will give all WNBA players access to a comprehensive financial literacy program provided by UBS,” the website states.

WNBA players Natasha Cloud and Renee Montgomery are among the athletes who have opted to focus on social justice reform instead of playing this season. According to NBC Sports, some other players who chose to skip the season for health or social justice reasons are Rebecca Allen and Asia Durr of the New York Liberty, Kristi Toliver and Chiney Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks, Jessica Breland of the Phoenix Mercury, Tiffany Hayes of the Atlanta Dream and Liz Cambage of the Las Vegas Aces.

Monster props to Kyrie for helping those who aren’t just protecting their health, but also looking to initiate change at a time when racism, inequality, and right-leaning hatred seem to be reigning supreme.

It’s been a wild start to the season for the WNBA as is what with players calling for Republican Senator and Atlanta Dream co-owner Kelly Loeffler to step down after she criticized the Black Lives Matter movement and suggested it would “destroy” America. Not only has Loeffler refused to leave her post, but she’s also refused to apologize for her statement.

Things really went up a notch on the court this past weekend when players for both the New York Liberty and Seattle Storm not only walked onto the court with Breonna Taylor’s name on their jerseys but also walked off the court during the National Anthem in a show of solidarity for social justice.

Whether or not the Atlanta Dream take similar action to send a message to Loeffler remains to be seen, but if they do best believe we’ll be riding right alongside with them.

15 Women Accuse Former Redskins Employees of Sexual Harassment

ASHBURN, Va. — The much anticipated exposé was published by the Washington Post on Thursday evening. It highlights a rampant culture rife with tolerated sexual harassment that has been brought to light from the allegations of the fifteen former female staffers, highlighted by former staffer Emily Applegate.

In the past week, three Washington employees Richard Mann II, Alex Santos and the radio broadcaster Larry Michael have all either been fired or left the team. All three of these men face the lion’s share of the articles’ allegations. Other former employees like Dennis Greene, former president of business operations and Mitch Gershman, former chief operating officer also levied allegations of misconduct.

On Larry Michael: “Seven former employees said Michael routinely discussed the physical appearance of female colleagues in sexual and disparaging overtones. In 2018, Michael was caught on a ‘hot mic’ speaking about the attractiveness of a college-aged intern, according to six former employees who heard the recording. Michael declined an interview request and retired Wednesday.”

On Alex Santos: “Santos, the club’s director of pro personnel, was accused by six former employees and two reporters who covered the team of making inappropriate remarks about their bodies and asking them if they were romantically interested in him. In 2019, Santos was the subject of an internal investigation after Rhiannon Walker, a reporter for The Athletic, informed club management Santos had pinched her, told her she had ‘an ass like a wagon,’ and repeatedly asked her to date him, Walker said in an interview with The Post. Nora Princiotti, a reporter for The Ringer who formerly covered the team, also said in an interview that she was harassed by Santos. Santos, who was fired this past week, declined to comment.”

On Richard Mann II: “[Mann,] assistant director of pro personnel, who in one text message obtained by The Post told a female employee he and colleagues debated whether her breasts had been surgically enhanced and in another text message told another female employee to expect  an ‘inappropriate hug…And don’t worry that will be a stapler in my pocket, nothing else.’ Mann, who also was fired last week, declined to comment.”

On Dennis Greene: “[Greene] implored female staff to wear low-cut blouses, tight skirts and flirt with wealthy suite holders, according to five former employees, including Applegate. Green’s 17-year career with the club ended in 2018 amid a scandal over the revelation he had sold access to Redskins cheerleaders — as part of premium quite packages. Greene declined to comment.”

On Mitch Gershman: “[Gershman] who Applegate said routinely berated her for trivial problems such as printer malfunctions while also complimenting her body. Two other former female employees supporters Applegate’s account of her sexual harassment and verbal abuse by Gershman, who left the team in 2015.”

The story paints a picture of a toxic work environment where employees were “all just afraid for our jobs and trying to make it.” Specifically about Michael, one former staffer put it bluntly, “They’re not going to get rid of ‘The Voice of the Redskins’…over a $30,000-a-year marketing manager.”

Dan Snyder and the Washington Football team retained the services of Beth Wilkinson “to do an independent review of the team’s culture, policies and allegations of workplace misconduct.” This move is looking more and more like lawyering up more than reviewing the team culture.

A week of rampant speculation preceded the publishing of this story What a week for Washington Football.

Model Anna Mya Says She Has Already Been Invited To The NBA Bubble

Model/Gamer Anna Mya has gone on Twitter to give us the tea before tip-off. NBA players are getting themselves ready to resume the 2020 season in Orlando. Russell Westbrook will not be making the trip due to testing positive for COVID-19. The rest of the league have been in quarantine or in other words the “NBA Bubble“. The players have strict rules to keep everyone safe from getting the virus. One of the biggest rules is no visitors. Well, that rule was short-lived (allegedly) as model Anna Mya has claimed to be invited to the NBA Bubble.

Mo Bambo assumed it was Utah Jazz All-Star Donovan Mitchell but Ms. Mya quickly said no and she “wishes” it was Mitchell.

More news to come as the story develops.

FedEx Calls For Washington Football Team’s Name Change, Nike Pulls ‘Racist’ Apparel From Website

LANDOVER, Md — Two major NFL sponsors, FedEx and Nike, have officially ramped up long mounting pressure on Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to change his team’s nickname.

The nickname “Redskins” is an antiquated racial slur against Native Americans and seen by many as offensive. Countless attempts by numerous activist groups over the years to have the name changed have been unsuccessful, but that may change now that the outcry is reaching Synder’s pockets.

In a concise, one sentence long statement on Thursday (July 2), FedEx said “We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name.” FedEx holds the naming right to FedEx Field, Washington’s home stadium, in Landover, Maryland, as part of a 27-year, $205 million naming deal that runs through the 2026 season. FedEx’s CEO, Frederick W. Smith, is also a minority investor in the football team, proving just how closely FedEx has aligned itself with the franchise since the decades since they partnered up in 1999. FedEx was the first major corporate backer of the Washington Redskins to call on the team to change its name.

Nike, the official apparel sponsor of the NFL, appears to have followed suit and has removed all Washington Redskins gear from their website. Searching “Washington Redskins” on the site return zero results and the team’s name is not listed with the 31 other NFL teams, any of which apparel can still be purchased. Nike has been the NFL’s official uniform and sideline gear provider since 2012 and their current agreement runs through the 2028 season.

Watch Vid: The Fumble – Sponsors Dropping Out Of Partnership With Washington If They Don’t Change Their Team Name | LIVE

The moves from the two companies come less than a week after a group of more than 85 investment firms and shareholders representing $620 billion in assets called on FedEx, Nike, and PepsiCo to sever relationships with the team unless Snyder changes his team’s nickname. In the letter addressed to Nike, the firms said “In light of the Black Lives Matter movement that has focused the world’s attention on centuries of systemic racism, we are witnessing a fresh outpouring of opposition to the team name. Therefore, it is time for Nike to meet the magnitude of this moment, to make their opposition to the racist team name clear, and to take tangible and meaningful steps to exert pressure on the team to cease using it.”

This move is just the latest in Nike’s attempts in recent years to distance themselves from the “Redskins” nickname. Last year, when Nike sold “Salute to Service” hoodies to benefit military charities, they referred to the team as “Washington Football” making them the only NFL team whose hoodie did not reference their name. In the letter to Nike, the shareholders called out Nike for selling “apparel with the team’s racist name and logo” later adding “this association with and facilitation of the racism inherent in the name and logo runs contrary to the very sentiments expressed by the company.”

In the past, Snyder has been very adamant about his resistance to changing the name of his franchise. “As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it’s all about and what it means. We’ll never change the name. It’s that simple. NEVER — you can use caps” Snyder infamously said in a 2013 interview. As recently as 2018, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said a name change for Washington was unlikely. These two takes are not aging well and the wind of change is swirling.

Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Ben Simmons has been bored out of his mind just like the rest of us. Since the NBA season being practically cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic athletes have been finding ways to pass time.

Simmons, is a big gamer and streamed live while playing Call Of Duty. During the live stream he read a comment from a fan and it was about bringing Phoenix Suns All Star Devin Booker to Philly. The fresh prince of Philly sounded like he totally agreed with the fan and has all of us at the edge of our seats. Does this mean their can be a possible Big 3 in Philly?? We love the ring to that!
