A Washington, DC, police officer who served in the motorcade security detail for President Obama and other dignitaries has been relegated to desk duty after allegedly threatening to shoot Michelle Obama. During a discussion of threats to the Obamas with other members of his unit, the officer allegedly said he would shoot the first lady, and used his cell phone to show other officers a picture of the gun he’d shoot her with, the Washington Post reports.
A fellow officer who overheard the conversation reported the officer to his superiors, who notified the Internal Affairs Department and the Secret Service, which says it is aware of the incident and is conducting the appropriate follow-up. “We received an allegation that inappropriate comments were made,” a DC police spokeswoman says. “We are currently investigating the nature of those comments.” Officials say there is no indication that there was a legitimate danger to the first lady.
