Philadelphia has a long history of being a city ripe with talent. We have also gained a reputation for having events that cater to finding new talent. One event that comes to mind is The Black Lily. The Roots and the Jazzyfatnasties fronted this weekly musical extraveganza on Tuesday nights at the 5 Spot (which burned down years ago). The Lily became infamous for showcasing the talents of Kindred The Family Soul, Jaguar Wright, Bilal, Jasmine Sullivan while seasoned vets like Prince, Janet Jackson, Common and Erykah Badu made special guest appearances when they were in town. We may not have The Black Lily anymore but there are several venues which are opening their doors to the city’s undiscovered talent. If you are an actor, dancer, musician, singer or poet you have an opportunity to do your thing on a local stage. To sign up and to find out more info CLICK HERE.
